Some Info About Shaft Seals

Shaft seals, also called oil seals, were made for bearing protection on rotating shafts, but that was only the beginning. They need to protect shaft equipment from different impurities and water, statically or dynamically. There are three basic parts of this product; usually metal case to improve strength, as well as rigidity, the sealing element to provide protection from leaking and the spring to ensure even better characteristics.

PTFE seals are used in numerous industries. As one of the best known insulators, it's widely used in various electrical installations. In semi-conductor industry it's great for various types of chips, and its operating temperature is between -350 degrees F up to +550 degrees Fahrenheit. Inert, with great chemical resistance, and other qualities, it's an ideal material for seals production, as well.

It is used for making teflon seal, PTFE shaft seal, gaskets and guide rings. O-rings, wipers rod and piston profiles and other custom designs are available. With an excellent low friction and chemical resistance, this material can be used as virgin PTFE, mainly for O-rings, but it can also be filled with graphite, glass, bronze etc.

Teflon's characteristics make it a perfect material for using in food industry, in different laboratories, beverage industry and all other industries where chemical resistance is a must. Providing the highest quality sealing characteristics, this material is also the best choice possible for producing o-rings.

O-ring is so simple, and so useful in infinite number of applications. The basic purpose is to stop any leaking between two surfaces closely put together. When everything is done as it supposed to be, there will be no leaking of oil or any other similar fluid.

Pure Teflon, also called virgin PTFE is mostly used for making those rings, but also for special backup sonic rings. The cryogenic industry mainly uses this type of Teflon. For dynamic sealing, the bronze filled version is the best choice; thanks to the fact bronze will improve compressive strength as well as wear resistance. Other versions like graphite or glass filled ones are used in many applications.

Different fillings are there to enhance some specific characteristic or add a new one. Teflon quality is something you may rely on, in any case. Different materials will make it even more applicable in some specific environmental conditions. For example, graphite will improve thermal conductivity in specific bounds.

PTFE shaft seals are mainly used for sealing purpose in pumps, separators, mixers, air compressors and similar appliances and machines. They act incredibly well in vacuum and under pressurized condition. Thanks to general properties of this quality material, they have extremely good resistance to speeds, heat, and wear and tear.
